The Miocene Horse Camp Formation is exposed in the Horse Range, the eastern bounding range to Railroad Valley, NV, where oil has been produced since 1955. These sedimentary rocks are tilted up to 70°, as well as being folded. They sit on a stack of Oligocene volcanic rocks, which appear to predate extensional faulting in the area. This Miocene basin is well-exposed, providing an excellent natural laboratory for exploring the interaction of basin formation and faulting.
