Geology of Oregon's High Desert

COGS has partnered with PLAYA art and science center in Summer Lake, Oregon, for a three day field experience in Oregon's high desert.
This workshop will explore the geology of the Summer Lake, Christmas Valley, and Lake Abert regions with daily field trips, evening presentations, and group dinners provided by PLAYA. Areas visited will include Summer Lake, Ana River, Hole-in-the-Ground, Fort Rock, Crack-in-the-Ground, and the Lake Abert area. Field trip stops will highlight the region’s remarkable geology and cultural history, exploring active faulting and volcanism, records of past climate change, and archaeological sites.
This workshop is organized by PLAYA and registration is open to everyone.
This is not an official COGS field trip, but COGS members are encouraged to register! Our partnership with PLAYA allows us to plan a three day field experience that includes comfortable accommodations, a beautiful lodge for evening programs, and group dinners (PLAYA's meals are fantastic!).
